GOD and the LAW
I have sinned and done
wrong since the day I
was born. But you want
complete honesty, so
teach me true wisdom.
Wash me with hyssop
until I am clean and
whiter than snow. Let
me be happy and joyful!
You crushed my bones,
now let them celebrate.
Turn your eyes from my
sin and cover my guilt.
Create pure thoughts in
me and make me
faithful again. Don't
chase me away from
you or take your Holy
Spirit away from me.
Psalm 51.5-11
Finally, I prayed to God in
heaven, and my mind was
healed. Then I said: "I
praise and honor God Most
High. He will never end. To
him the nations are far less
than nothing; God controls
the stars in the sky and
everyone on this earth.
When God does something,
we cannot change it or even
ask why." Daniel 4.34-35
I was a wise teacher with
much understanding, and
I collected a number of
proverbs that I had
carefully studied. Then I
tried to explain these
things in the best and
most accurate way.
Words of wisdom are like
the stick a farmer uses to
make animals move.
These sayings come from
God, our only shepherd,
and they are like nails
that fasten things
together. Ecc.12.9-11
You, Lord, brought me
safely through birth, and
you protected me when I
was a baby at my
mother's breast. From
the day I was born, I
have been in your care,
and from the time of my
birth, you have been my
God. Psalm 22.9-10
God has shown us how
kind he is by coming to
save all people. He taught
us to give up our wicked
ways and our worldly
desires and to live decent
and honest lives in this
world. We are filled with
hope, as we wait for the
glorious return of our
great God and Savior Jesus
Christ. Titus 2.11-13
My enemies, don't be
glad because of my
troubles! I may have
fallen but I will get up; I
may be sitting in the
dark, but the Lord is my
light. I have sinned
against the Lord. And so I
must endure his anger,
until he comes to my
defense. Micah 7.8-9
The priests do their
work each day, and they
keep on offering
sacrifices that can never
take away sins. But
Christ offered himself
as a sacrifice that is
good forever. Now he is
sitting at God's right
side, and he will stay
there until his enemies
are put under his
power. By his one
sacrifice he has forever
set free from sin the
people he brings to
God. Hebrews 10.11-14
Just thinking of my
troubles and my lonely
wandering makes me
miserable. That's all I
think about and I am
depressed. Then I
remember something that
fills me with hope. The
Lord's kindness never
fails! If he had not been
merciful, we would have
been destroyed. The Lord
can always be trusted to
show mercy each
morning. Deep in my
heart I say, "The Lord is
all I need; I can depend
on him!" Lam. 3.19-24
Some Personal Favorites
Lord God, my family and I
don't deserve what you
have already done for us,
and yet you have promised
to do even more for my
descendants. You are
treating me as if I am a
very important person. I
am your servant, and you
know my thoughts. What
else can I say, except that
you have honored me? It
was your choice to do
these wonderful things for
me and to make these
promises. 1 Chronicles
17.16.5-19
Each of you is now a
new person. You are
becoming more and
more like your Creator,
and you will
understand him better.
It doesn't matter if you
are a Greek or a Jew,
or if you are
circumcised or not. You
may even be a
barbarian or a
Scythian, and you may
be a slave or a free
person. Yet Christ is all
that matters, and he
lives in all of us. Col.
3.10-11
They are stubborn and
hardheaded. But I, the
Lord God, have chosen
you to tell them what I
say. Those rebels may not
even listen, but at least
they will know that a
prophet has come to
them. Don't be afraid of
them or of anything they
say. You may think
you're in the middle of a
thorn patch or a bunch of
scorpions. But be brave
and preach my message
to them, whether they
choose to listen or not.
Eze.2.4-7
I thank Christ Jesus our
Lord. He has given me the
strength for my work
because he knew that he
could trust me. I used to
say terrible and insulting
things about him, and I
was cruel. But he had
mercy on me because I
didn't know what I was
doing, and I had not yet
put my faith in him.
Christ Jesus our Lord was
very kind to me. He has
greatly blessed my life
with faith and love just
like his own.1 Tim. 1.12-14
Praise God! He can make
you strong by means of my
good news, which is the
message about Jesus Christ.
For ages and ages this
message was kept secret,
but now at last it has been
told. The eternal God
commanded his prophets
to write about the good
news, so that all nations
would obey and have faith.
And now, because of Jesus
Christ, we can praise the
only wise God forever!
Amen. Romans 16.25-27
Strange things will
happen to the sun,
moon, and stars. The
nations on earth will be
afraid of the roaring sea
and tides, and they
won't know what to do.
People will be so
frightened that they will
faint because of what is
happening to the world.
Every power in the sky
will be shaken. Then
the Son of Man will be
seen, coming in a cloud
with great power and
glory. When all of this
starts happening, stand
up straight and be
brave. You will soon be
set free. Luke 21.25-28

When I tell wicked people
they will die because of
their sins, you must warn
them to turn from their
sinful ways. But if you
refuse to warn them, you
are responsible for their
death. If you do warn
them, and they keep
sinning, they will die
because of their sins, and
you will be innocent.
Ezekiel 33.8-9
Be alert and think
straight. Put all your hope
in how kind God will be
to you when Jesus Christ
appears. Behave like
obedient children. Don't
let your lives be
controlled by your
desires, as they used to
be. Always live as God's
holy people should,
because God is the one
who chose you, and he is
holy. That's why the
Scriptures say "I am the
holy God, and you must
be holy too." 1 Peter 1.13-16
You used to be far from
God. Your thoughts made
you his enemies, and you
did evil things. But his Son
became a human and died.
So God made peace with
you, and now he lets you
stand in his presence as
people who are holy and
faultless and innocent. But
you must stay deeply
rooted and firm in your
faith. You must not give up
the hope you received
when you heard the good
news. It was preached to
everyone on earth, and I
myself have become a
servant of this message.
Col. 1.21-23
The Lord has promised:
Your sorrow has ended,
and you can celebrate. I
will punish those who
mistreat you. I will bring
together the lame and
the outcasts, then they
will be praised, instead
of despised, in every
country on earth. I will
lead you home, and
with your own eyes you
will see me bless you
with all you once
owned. Then you will be
famous everywhere on
this earth. I, the Lord,
have spoken! Zep.
3.18-20
You tricked me, Lord,
and I was really fooled.
You are stronger than I
am, and you have
defeated me. People
never stop sneering and
insulting me. You have let
me announce only
destruction and death.
Your message has
brought me nothing but
insults and trouble.
Sometimes I tell myself
not to think about you,
Lord, or even mention
your name. But your
message burns in my
heart and bones, and I
cannot keep silent. Jer.
20.7-9
The Lord has made me
very grateful that at last
you have thought about
me once again. Actually,
you were thinking about
me all along, but you
didn't have any chance to
show it. I am not
complaining about having
too little. I have learned
to be satisfied with
whatever I have. I know
what it is to be poor or to
have plenty, and I have
lived under all kinds of
conditions. I know what it
means to be full or to be
hungry, to have too much
or too little. Christ gives
me the strength to face
anything. Phil. 4.10-13
Only a fool would say,
"There is no God!" People
like that are worthless!
They are heartless and
cruel and never do right.
From heaven God looks
down to see if anyone is
wise enough to search for
him. But all of them are
crooked and corrupt. Not
one of them does right.
Won't you lawbreakers
learn? You refuse to pray,
and you gobble down the
people of God. But you
will be terrified worse
than ever before. God will
scatter the bones of his
enemies, and you will be
ashamed when God
rejects you. Psalm  53.1-5
